RMC Social Society Theatre Night - Weds 26 April 2023

Shall we dance …?

And dance we certainly did - well metaphorically speaking!

Everyone (well us oldies anyway!) is familiar with that wonderful old musical film version of The King and I, starring Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr.  However, to see it live on the New Theatre stage in Cardiff added another dimension - even though Helen George (of Call the Midwife fame) was unable to stage on the night.  Fortunately, her understudy (Maria Coyne) was more than up to the challenge, with a delightful performance as the feisty schoolteacher Anna, who eventually comes to respect the King’s vision for the future of Siam and to love the man - Etcetera, Etcetera!

The evening was made all the more splendid by a pre-theatre meal in nearby Valentino’s restaurant from where everyone exited, full of good food, wine and beer - well certainly Mike (Sullivan, baritone), Dave (Tutton, 2nd tenor), and Wyn (Cable, 2nd tenor)!

Many thanks to Mike for organising yet another super evening and watch this space for news of other riotous events including, later this year, a possible trip to London.
