The never-ending story of the upkeep of Risca Male Choir Headquarters Part 6

One of the issues we had with our building was the lack of wheelchair access, the steps at the front and side entrances being too steep.

Fortunately for the choir, we have in our midst, second tenor Rod Evans.

Rod is a carpenter by trade and works for Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly Care and Repair.

Rod was able, through his employers, to supply and install for us a ramp along the left hand side of the building and into the side entrance.

The lighting for the ramp was kindly supplied and fitted by bass section electrician, Steve Downs. Steve and I are also planning the replacement of the car park flood light with a more ECO friendly LED fitting and a smaller fitting above the emergency exit.

The ramp is on loan to the choir for the duration of our tenancy.

Rod also installed a hand rail for the steps from the double door exit, on the carpark side of the building.

Unfortunately, during storm Eunice, several slates were lost from the roof. Scaffolding was erected at a considerable expense once again, but luckily for us, Rod offered to do the job of replacing them himself, ably assisted by Mike.

On behalf of the choir, I would like to thank Rod, Steve and Mike for their help and hard work, it is very much appreciated.

We hope that you have enjoyed following the blogs of the ‘never ending story’ that illustrate what a wonderful job the choristers have done. They show how responsibly and caringly we look after our HQ.
