CHORISTERS UP CLOSE – Peter Kinsey

Name: Peter Kinsey
Section: Second tenor
Date of joining RMC: March 2022

How did you come to join Risca Male Choir?

I was recruited by MD, Matthew Harrison to take part in the Llangollen Eisteddfod, 2024.

We realise that you’ve only been with the choir for a short time, but what are the elements you have most enjoyed so far that have encouraged you to stay?

There was a warm welcome, friendly support, and help with learning the repertoire

What music have you particularly enjoyed learning and singing and explain why? Please name 4 or 5 items.

Gwynllan a roddwyd, Hodie, Drunken Sailor – I enjoyed getting these up to performance standard for the National Eisteddfod in Pontypridd, August 2024

Anfonaf Angel – a long time favourite of mine.

Carol from an Irish Cabin – beautiful melody

What memorable choir moments, on or off stage, have given you particular pride and satisfaction?

On-stage at the National Eisteddfod having done our best performance and the emotions afterwards, especially after the announcement that the choir and MD had taken first prize.

Tell us briefly about your life outside of choir.

Married to Carole, ex geography teacher and psycho-therapist. Two children and four grandchildren.

Career as technical civil servant - last posting covering research into noise control.

Lapsed wood-turner since breaking a hip. I now do a lot of reading.

A final thought, if you have one

I feel privileged to be learning more about music and voice control from our brilliant MD, Matthew Harrison.
