Risca Male Choir - Blog #25
And there we have it – 2 years of writing these blogs! In my first blog, I said “I am looking forward to rehearsing for the Christmas period” … boy was that naïve!! It has been such a long 2 years for all of us, and by no means are we out of the woods yet. But it must be said that this year looks a lot more promising than what we experienced recently. We have events lined up, concerts booked and many more rehearsals to attend, so I can confidently say that things are looking up for us at Risca Male Choir!
We have 3 events coming up in June, so it’s all approaching super quick! If you want to know what events you can attend, then please visit our events section of the website to find out more information.
Welsh Musicians of the Month - Cerddorion Cymreig y Mis
Ivor Novello – 1893-1951
His original name was David Ivor Davies.
Welsh actor-manager, composer, and playwright, best known for his lush, sentimental, romantic musicals.
Educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, and served with the Royal Naval Air Service during World War I.
He became famous with the phenomenally successful patriotic wartime song, Keep the Home Fires burning (1915).
Stereophonics (1992-present)
Members: Kelly Jones (lead vocals, lead guitar, keyboards), Richard Jones (bass guitar, harmonica, backing vocals), Adam Zindani (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Jamie Morrison (drums, percussion).
It has been reported they got the name Stereophonics, after Stuart read the manufacturer name of a gramophone, "Falcon Stereophonic" and they shortened it to Stereophonics.
They were the first band to sign with Richard Branson's newly formed V2 record label in 1996.
Stereophonics performed the original opening theme tune for the TV series Long Way Round. The song's lyrics were slightly altered for the follow-up series, Long Way Down.
Kelly is known as the most hot-headed member of the band, having had spats in the past with Radiohead and Muse.
