Welcome back to the blog!
Restrictions are beginning to ease and we are able to have more people at rehearsals. This means lots more work for the guys, and the results are showing!
Having begun a repertoire full of variety, we are able to add more songs to our core rep, which means a larger range of choice for future programmes. And from what I can tell, the guys are enjoying the singing. (Or at least putting on a brave face…!!)
With us having to have more people attend rehearsals, we are able to put on taster sessions for potential newcomers. We will hold open rehearsals on the 17th and 20th of March and we invite you to come! Welsh Musicians of the Month - Cerddorion Cymreig y Mis
We continue with this new section by introducing two new artists.
Dame Margaret Berenice Price
(Born in Blackwood, 1941-2011)
● Born with deformed legs and had surgery at the age of four. Had pains in her legs for the rest of her life!
● Made her operatic debut with Welsh National Opera performing the role of Cherubino in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro.
● In 1968, critic Desmond Shawe-Taylor called her singing "brilliant, flexible and large scale" as Constanze in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail at Glyndebourne.
● Most famous for her Mozart roles.
● Most popular era was in 1970s and 1980s.
Llŷr Williams
(born in Wrexham)
● Started learning the piano at the age of seven. By eleven, he had passed grades 1-8 – all with distinction!
● After a First-Class Honours at Queen’s College, Oxford, he attended the Royal Academy of Music as a postgraduate scholar. He won every available prize at the Academy and received its highest academic award, the Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music (DipRAM).
● In 2004 he received an award of £20,000 from the Borletti-Buitoni Trust, part of which he said he would spend on replacing the mechanics of his piano, which had become worn out through being played for six hours each day!
